Synopsis

Before the liberation of Shanghai, troops of the 8th Regiment of the People's Liberation Army were ordered to rest and be on standby. While training and supplementing their ranks and supplies, they also took part in cultural learning. The regiment leader and soldiers were all from rural areas and found learning difficult. The teachers worked hard to help them, and the instructors often provided encouragement, allowing them to make rapid progress. When battle broke out, the 8th Regiment went to the front line. The regiment leader discovered that the enemy's rear had an orphanage and he ordered that artillery fire should not be used, but that the enemy should be engaged in a hand-to-hand combat. He courageously fought the enemy, sacrificing himself in the process. The film shows the image of ordinary yet great and lovely people's soldiers.
