Synopsis

Wei Ming is a highly educated woman who fought for marriage freedom but was abandoned. She refused the advances of Dr. Wang, the school director, and was fired. Under the pressure of life, Wei Ming had to become a "slave for one night", but she did not expect the customer to be Dr. Wang. In the end, Wei Ming took poison and committed suicide. On her deathbed, encouraged by her friend (female worker Li Aying), she shouted "I want to live. I want to take revenge". The film criticized the evil, portrayed the advanced female worker Li Aying, denied Wei Ming's weakness, and pointed out the correct path of women's liberation struggle. Ruan Lingyu took the role of the female protagonist with her excellent performance, accurately expressing the character's emotional world. However, she herself was also insulted and persecuted by the evil forces of society. Consequently, she took poison and committed suicide on the morning of March 8th, 1935, ending her life at the age of 25.
